Details of Experience:

Shirley was admitted to Ramapo Manor on December 13th, of 2016, from an inpatient hospitalization resulting from a fall and hip fracture. She had severe shortness of breath and needed continuous oxygen to keep up her saturations levels. Upon exertion during treatment, Shirley often would become short of breath and subsequently became dizzy and faint. During her first day at Ramapo Manor, she was evaluated by physical therapy as well as the pulmonary team and placed on a program to improve her breathing endurance and increase her oxygen saturation.

It was very important to Shirley that she not return home with oxygen support as her belief that it would limit her quality of life and ability to do the things she loves, such as shopping and visiting family. With the help of the respiratory and physical therapists, she began improving rapidly and began reducing her oxygen dependency until she no longer required it! Shirley was someone who always enjoyed going to the recreation programs – from arts and crafts, to the lovely music played daily by the musicians at Ramapo.

Shirley would often leave her space and connect with several other patients within the community. She not only enjoyed going out and making new friends, but also enjoyed supporting each other with improving on their recovery and making plans to return home. Shirley was always a person who enjoyed getting her hair done, and creating a fabulous presentation, which often was complimented by the staff. Shirley shared, “I can’t thank the wonderful staff of Ramapo Rehab Center not only for my excellent care, but for the encouragement that I received on my path to wellness”. Thank you again all the amazing staff at Ramapo for the fantastic work you do.
