Details of Experience:
Earline “Ida” Hughes lives on a small acreage in Sumner County where she used to garden and raise her animals. She worked for a shoe company for 24 years and the county school board for over 30 years. She is an avid reader and enjoys watching the wildlife through her window. After a rough bout of pneumonia and spending time in the hospital, she came here to Gallatin Center for therapy. She had severe weakness and needed to regain her strength in order to return home.

When Ida started therapy, she was Mod A for bathing, toileting, and lower body dressing. She was standby assist for UB dressing. Therapy worked on strengthening and balance to increase her independence. Upon discharging home, Ida was set-up bathing and dressing. She walks with stand by assist and modified independence for toileting. Ms. Hughes was oxygen dependent when admitted with difficulty walking and required a lot of assistance. Ms. Hughes was able to discontinue the use of all oxygen and was able to walk 75 ft with a rolling walker with supervision.

Ida stated during her time here, she made many friends and felt very welcome here at Gallatin Center. She developed a very good bond with her therapist, Ally, whom she described as very helpful and caring. Ida enjoyed spending time with her and having a good laugh every time they got together. Nothing makes us prouder than sending residents home happy and healthy as well as feeling like part of our family here at Gallatin Center.

We will miss Ida and her wonderful smile, but are excited for her and her future at home!
