How did patient hear about Bethany Center for Rehabilitation and Healing? Her surgeon at Centennial Medical Center referred her to Bethany Center for Rehabilitation and Healing. 

Details of Experience:
Ms. Vee was admitted to Bethany for rehabilitation after having surgery on her right knee. She received this surgery because her knee was bone on bone and was having trouble walking. She stated, “most days I was not able to ambulate without my walker because of the pain I was in.” She was admitted to Centennial Medical Center on September 26th and her procedure there. She informed me she spent about a week in the hospital recovering and starting her therapy journey there.

As soon as she walked into Bethany’s doors our team greeted her with a smile and she greeted us with one right back. As we sat and spoke with her and got to know her a little better, we knew she was going to be determined to complete therapy and be running out of here within no time. Our team explained to her during the admission process that she would be meeting with Occupational, Physical, and Speech therapy within the first 24-48 hours of her stay. She then said with excitement “I cannot wait; I am looking forward to seeing them.”

The next day she was greeted and started her journey in the therapy department. Every day we would see her going downstairs for therapy with the biggest smile on her face. Her goals were quickly discussed and immediately started. Some of her occupational therapy goals included Activities of Daily Living goals such as bathing and dressing. Strengthening goal included Dynamic standing balance goals to strengthen her knee. The last set of occupational therapy goals were being able to cook, clean, and do laundry independently.

Throughout the 17 days she was here she exceeded all of those goals. She was up and walking the day after she admitted to Bethany. While working with occupational therapy she learned several techniques she could take home with her. The week before she was discharged, she told her therapist as one of her treatments she wanted to bake blueberry muffins for the entire therapy team, which she did with minimal help. By the end of her occupational therapy treatment, she was able to meet and exceed all of her baseline goals.

As for physical therapy, some of her goals included bed mobility tasks, transfers from a wheelchair to bed and vice versa, be able to ambulate 150+ feet with a walker, and range of motion in the right knee. Ms. Vee was admitted with her own walker, which she called Jeremiah. She informed us and the therapists specifically that she did not want to get rid of Jeremiah completely because she felt safe with him. So keeping that in mind, the therapist worked on walking with and without the walker so she felt safe in both ways. By the end of her treatment, she was able to walk twice the length (300 ft) with a walker, transfer from bed to wheelchair and vice versa with and without a walker, and exceed the range of motion. The patient was also provided with a range of motion techniques to take home to continue to work her knee.

When Ms. Vee was admitted to our community she came in with a smile and determination. When we completed her initial evaluation she informed us that she was here to get better and make some friends along the way, which she has succeeded to do. She has kept that smile on her face the entire 17 days she was here with us. It was a pleasure to have met such a bright and bubbly person.
