How did this patient hear about The Bristol: Social Worker at Tampa General Hospital.

Details of Experience:
On what was a most unfortunate and stressful time, Mr. Elton Hill had found himself falling on a regular basis due to weakness, which ultimately led to him going to Tampa General Hospital and then soon after, being admitted to The Bristol.

Mr. Elton Hill arrived at The Bristol on October 18, 2019. Upon arrival, Mr. Hill had unbearable pain in his right leg due to it being swollen. The pain was so severe that Mr. Hill was unable to walk, stand, get out of bed, or do any daily activities on his own. He was max assist for bed transfer and ambulating. Naturally, this was very challenging for Mr. Hill as he stated: “I couldn’t walk [and] I was very depressed.” To Mr. Hill’s good fortune, the good news was that these significant challenges were about to start improving.

Within just a few weeks, the progress started to happen. His incredible therapists, Melody Hart & Jorge Sama started doing resistance bands & would practice different bed skills with him. As a result, by only his second week, Mr. Hill was able to sit up on the side of his bed & transfer into his wheelchair with moderate assist which quickly progressed to minimum assistance.

Only a few weeks later with continued occupational and physical therapy, Mr. Hill’s progress became nothing short of amazing! The progress was consistent and Mr. Hill maintained a positive attitude. He was able to do all of his ADL’s with mod assist and just a few weeks later, he was completely independent doing a stand pivot transfer, grooming, hygiene, lower & upper body dressing, and bathing! Mr. Hill had made a complete 180!

As happy as we were with Mr. Hill’s incredible progress, we were happy that Mr. Hill was pleased with how his stay had gone as he had stated “Melody & Jorge really helped me, they took a personal interest in me. The lasagna is very good [as well] & the lemon cucumber water in the front lobby was really good especially for when you go outside. Lisha [Casey Charles] was [also] very helpful”. We hope Mr. Hill only continues his strong progression!
