Details of experience:
Anita H. was admitted to The Encore as a result of muscle weakness caused by the transmission of the virus COVID-19 after attending a family member’s funeral. The decline had impacted her daily living activities and made walking very difficult. As a result, Ms. H. required physical and occupational therapy. Upon arrival to The Encore on September 26, 2020, she was greeted and evaluated by her therapists’, Michael and Julieth. They were excited to get working, as they saw her determination when she stated: “I want to get back to my old self and go home.”

They started working with Anita on her standing ability, which she was able to do for five minutes without rest breaks. This helped her begin getting to a point of working on her activities of daily living (ADL’s). At the same time, they also worked on her functional transfers for push up from the arms of her chair, which she was able to do with modified independent support.

After much success, they began to focus on her walking. From barely walking, she had progressed to 100 feet with a rolling walker. Only three weeks after that, she was able to ambulate 200 feet, improved her ADLs to be able to dress on her own, and perform functional transfers with modified independence!

Anita completed her goal of returning home, as she was discharged on December 17, 2020. The team was extremely emotional, as they all loved Anita very much and were so happy about her incredible progress, but knew they would miss her bright personality. Anita assured the team that as soon as it was safe, she would return for a visit. Upon leaving, Anita was very emotional and stated “I will miss everyone. You were all so nice and pleasant. You have a wonderful place over here. Thank you for everything!

The team wishes Anita only continued progress and cannot wait for her to come to visit!
