How did this patient hear about Lebanon Center for Rehabilitation and Healing? Saint Thomas Hospital

Details of Experience:
Mrs. Cunningham came to us from Saint Thomas Hospital in March. She was on a peg tube and unable to walk or perform daily tasks on her own. Mrs. Cunningham was confused upon arrival and required speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing assistance around the clock. When Mrs. Cunningham came to us, it was anticipated that she would be a long-term care patient due to all the obstacles she was facing, along with little self-motivation.

Mrs. Cunningham had several trips to the hospital as her health continued to decline. After coming back to us the last time, she was ready to go. She began working hard to achieve her goals of going home. Although Mrs. Cunningham stated, “the staff is very supportive and caring,” she was set to return home, where her husband was and where she wanted to be. She was able to have the Peg Tube removed, and she now eats and drinks regularly. This was our first big accomplishment, as when she arrived, the peg tube was her only means of nutrition.

Not long after her motivation and drive kicked in, Mrs. Cunningham, as a former nurse, stated,” you never think it can happen to you until it does. I have anxiety, so I let my thoughts get in the way of my recovery. However, now I have learned to overcome that, to get better and get back home.” Mrs. Cunningham can now dress and perform her other daily functions on her own.

Mrs. Cunningham was unable to get around when she arrived at Lebanon. She could not walk on her own to the bathroom. When preparing to leave our facility, she asked how long until she could go without relying on oxygen. Her focus was totally on her road to full recovery. Mrs. Cunningham has made amazing progress, and the staff at Lebanon Center couldn’t be happier for her.

We wish her all the best with health and happiness with a long and prosperous life ahead of her.
