Details of Experience:

Fred Mincher was admitted to Oasis Center for Rehabilitation and Healing on February 17, 2017 from St. Elizabeth Hospital where Dr. Schrickel, Orthopedic Surgeon, performed a revision surgery to his left lower leg.. In 1973, Fred shared that a piece of steel fell on him at work that fractured his left femur. He had an ORIF of the left femur at that time and continued to have multiple surgeries afterward leading up to 2001. About a year ago, Fred had a fall and went to the ER. He was told then that everything was fine. Since that time he had been going to a pain clinic for the continuous pain he had in his left leg. On February 9, 2017 he could no longer stand the pain and went back to the ER. Fred was then admitted to the hospital and on February 13, 2017, Dr. Schrickel performed surgery on his leg. While at the hospital, therapy was being performed and he was a max assist for lower body, stand by assist for upper body and minimum assist for bed mobility and was only able to walk approximately 40 feet with a wheeled walker. He was independent prior to his surgery and he lived alone in a two story home with his bedroom and bathroom both on the second floor. So the decision was made that he would need to go to a rehabilitation center. Fred had a good friend name Ron who had just had therapy at Oasis Center, noting a great experience! When the time came for him to pick somewhere, Fred choose Oasis Center to complete his short term rehabilitation

Fred progressed extremely well with his therapy services. Initially, he was limited to 50% weight bearing to his left leg in order to allow the bones to heal. Despite this limitation, he was able to ambulate up to 200 feet independently and able to complete all of his daily task requirements!

Fred was discharged home on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Prior to the actual discharge, Robyn, our social worker, sat down with Fred and discussed what he would need at discharge. Robyn was able to set up Home Health Care with Guardian Angel for continued skilled nursing care as well as physical and occupational therapy services in the home. No equipment was need in his home. Robyn coordinated with the nursing staff to have all Mr. Mincher’s medications called into Hometown Pharmacy.

Fred was a wonderful patient to work with. He was always happy and he did his best every single day. Due to his hard work, Fred was discharged back home within a month! We miss him and wish him nothing but the best!

A Note from Fred Mincher

“My time spent here was excellent. The Nurses, doctors, OT staff, aides and the hospitality were kind. I made great strides in my physical therapy rehab and was able to go home sooner than planned. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone needing this kind of care.
I especially was impressed with the physical therapy department and aid workers. They truly care about the patient’s well-being and it showed. Everyone I encountered treated me with dignity and respect.” – Fred M.
