Details of Experience:

Ms. Ellen Boulton is a 92-year-old female who was admitted to Jupiter Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center from Jupiter Medical Center after abdominal surgery and an anemic episode. Ellen was born in Brisbane, Australia and came to the United States when she was 19-years-old, and took a job modeling women’s clothing in a small department store. For enjoyment, Ellen loves to sing and started singing in church choirs at the age of six. She married a man who also loved music and together they entertained at small venues, nursing homes and operettas.

Ellen was very well-known to many of us at the community, as she came in as a visitor on a regular basis. It was shocking to see Ellen in such a compromised and weakened state for all of us. She required substantial assistance to stand, get out of bed and walk with a walker short distances – it was obvious that Ellen had quickly declined from her time in the hospital.

After almost a month of physical, occupational and speech therapy, Ellen was showing substantial progress, but became severely anemic due to a gastrointestinal bleed and was re-admitted to the hospital where she received a blood transfusion. Upon her return, Ellen has been thriving by leaps and bounds. Today, Ellen is preparing to return home, she is independently walking around the facility with her rolling walker, transfers independently, gets herself dressed in the morning and is even independent with her home exercise program. She is looking forward to catching up on her music and reading her fiction novels once she is back to her condo in Jupiter, Florida.
