Details of Experience:
Mr. Frederic Steel was admitted to the Grand Pavilion from Mercy Medical Center on August 2, 2017. As soon as Fred walked through the door, our Director of Concierge Services was there to welcome him into the Grand Pavilion Community. Fred decided to come to the Grand Pavilion based off a pleasant experience he had a few years back at one of the center’s social events. Mr. Steel worked for many years on Saks Fifth Avenue as a salesperson and was also a puppeteer on the side!
Upon admission to the Grand Pavilion, Mr. Steel experienced acute respiratory failure, and due to his diagnosis, it was extremely important to monitor his oxygen and ensure that his saturation levels were appropriate and within functional ranges while receiving rehabilitation services. Fred was experiencing a decrease in his participation with self-care activities of daily living and it was the common goal of both physical and occupational therapy to regain his independence and return to Maple Pointe Assisted Living.
Throughout the first days of Fred’s stay, he showed tremendous interest in the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program, and he was immediately referred to Urban Zen Integrative Therapist, Laura, for one-to-one sessions. The Urban Zen Program offers private sessions as well as small group classes that incorporate gentle healing modalities, including that of essential oil therapy, Reiki and therapeutic yoga. Fred always found himself to be extremely calm after the sessions and immensely enjoyed the essential oils!
Mr. Steel made tremendous progress during his time spent in skilled rehabilitation. On a daily basis, he would train in ambulation, steer negotiation and navigate obstacles. Fred progressed with both physical and occupational therapy to the point where he was able to safely return back to Maple Pointe Assisted Living. The entire team was delighted to provide him with The Grand Pavilion experience and see him return home safely! Congratulations on your recovery, Fred!
