How did patient hear about Quality Rehabilitation Center: Vanderbilt Wilson

Details of Experience:
On February 18th, Kathryn was sitting on the side of her raised bed, when she slid off the bed onto her knees, tumbled and hit her head. She reports she was unable to get up until her brothers, who had been in a neighboring room, heard her fall and came to her aid.

Her brothers were unable to physically help her up off the floor, so they called 911 for assistance. The ambulance arrived and took Kathryn to Wilson Medical for assessment. X-rays were performed, and it was determined the Kathyrn was suffering from bilateral distal femur breaks to both her left and right proximal. Kathryn refused the surgery and thus was placed in a cast from her hips down to her ankles.

Once treated, Kathryn was discharged to Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing on February 24th, 2020, for skilled nursing care and therapy. Upon her arrival to the community, she was presented with a warm smile and a welcome, as well as a welcome bag. She warmed up quickly to the team, quickly beginning to discuss her dog, Oldie, whom she had for the past 15 years.

When first admitted to Quality Center, Kathryn was non-weight bearing, requiring a mechanical lift to transfer. Her biggest goal was to be able to regain her strength and independence, so she could return home to her dog. When deemed safe, her casting was removed, and she was able to begin weight-bearing with assistance. Continuing to work hard with her dedicated therapy team, Kathryn was able to begin standing with a walker, and by May, she was taking steps and walking a short distance with supervision.

As of May 20, 2020, Kathryn could walk 400 feet with her walker, and is very excited and eager to return home to her dog. Kathryn returned home on May 28th, where she was assisted in her continued recovery from her 2 brothers. She shared that she would love to come and visit the community when they reopen and looks forward to visiting with residents and staff.

The Quality Center team is so proud of Kathryn’s strength and is overjoyed to see her return home! They wish her all the best moving forward!
