How did the patient hear about The Enclave at Rye? The patient was admitted to our community after a referral by a social worker from Burke Rehab hospital. He was referred to our community because of our amputee walking school founded by Todd Schaffhauser and Dennis Oehler.
Reason for Stay: Rehabilitation following below the knee left leg amputation.

Details of Experience:

Mr. P was admitted to The Enclave at Rye Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on April 13th, 2026. He was given a couple of Sub Acute rehab communities to choose from but after learning about our amputee working school, he said the decision became easier. Mr. P said that Todd and Dennis’ story was so inspiring, and The Enclave felt like the perfect place to continue his journey towards better health.  Upon arrival, Mr. P was welcomed by the concierge and introduced to the interdisciplinary care team, including the unit nurse, nursing supervisor, and doctor.

 After all evaluations were done, he was ready to start his rehabilitation journey. He met with Todd and Dennis, his physical and occupational therapists and the interdisciplinary team to go over his care plan; then he was ready to start his rehabilitation journey.

Upon admission, Mr. P was a one-person assist, although not entirely dependent, he needed help with transfers and most ADL’s (Activities of Daily Living). He started making progress with his therapy; he quickly improved his physical strength and endurance and became more independent. 

Shortly after admission, Mr. P was fitted to get his personalized prosthesis.  In the meantime, he was using a temporary prosthesis for his therapy. From there it was just a matter of strength and conditioning to make sure he was able to get on his feet and be fully independent.

Mr. P was ready to be discharged after 50 days of therapy. He was fully independent. On the day of discharge, he walked out of our community gratefully and was tearful. He was able to walk with his prosthesis with the help of a walker. He achieved his highest practical level in therapy and was ready to resume his independent life in the community. 

Mr. P keeps in touch with the concierge about his adjustment at home and lets her know that he is back to servicing his church community and enjoying time with his family.
