Luxor Sayville welcomed Ava C. on March 9th, 2026. She was greeted by our wonderful staff after coming from Stony Brook University Hospital.

Upon admission, Ava C. was evaluated by our therapy team and it was determined that she was totally dependent in her mobility. Two people were required at all times to perform all bed mobility tasks. She was not able to ambulate and could not follow commands. Ava was also on a peg-tube, NPO with pleasure feeds once a day given by a nurse. Her sit to stand was not attempted due to her medical condition.

The time Ava spent at Luxor was tough, but she worked very hard every single day. She ended up making a great group of friends here. She loved to play card games and was always able to get other residents to join in. She would wear a different wig almost every day just to shake things up — she definitely kept things fun!

Ava’s goal was to get stronger, heal, and return home with her daughter. And that is exactly what she did. We are so proud to have had Ava as our patient and so happy to say she reached her goal.

From being totally dependent and needing a two-person assist, Ava truly beat the odds. She left Luxor independent in her bed mobility and walking 300 feet with a walker, and she was able to follow commands. Ava had our full support and we are so blessed to have had the opportunity to be with her on her journey to recovery.
