How did this patient hear about The Willows at Ramapo: The hospital offered a few options, and the daughter chose The Willows.

Aida was admitted to The Willows before a (Right) leg amputation performed at Good Sam Hospital. She came here seeking support in regaining the ability to walk once again. After meeting with the Prosthetist and spending time with the wonderful Todd Schaffhauser and Dennis Oehler, fellow amputees and both Gold Medal Paralympians, who are our partners in our Comprehensive Amputee Rehabilitation Program (CARP)/Amputee Walking School (AWS), she began her journey to achieve her goal.

Aida was readmitted to The Willows Rehab on 1/24/2024 after a left below-the-knee (BKA) amputation. Upon admission, Aida could not perform her daily living activities (ADLs), walk, or get in and out of bed without assistance. Aida was motivated and diligently worked with our rehab staff. In time, she regained strength and functional performance, improving her participation and ability to perform her self-care activities, and needed less assistance from caregivers.

The patient worked with our prosthetist and was fitted for her prosthetic limb. She has been working closely with her physical therapist, Todd, and Dennis from our Amputee Program and is beginning to learn to stand and ambulate with her prosthesis.

The patient shared that her stay at the Willows was quite enjoyable. She said, “Even though it has been a long time away from home, adjusting to life at the Willows was not hard, and it felt like a second home.” The Aides and Nurses responded quickly to calls and always brought her medication on time, which she appreciated. Aida has also shared positive feedback for our wonderful physical therapy department.

Aida, your strength, determination, and willpower are truly remarkable. We wish you continued good health and a success-filled road on your incredible journey. Thank you for allowing me to be your concierge at The Willows at Ramapo.
