- Infection prevention
- Nutrition
- Principles of growth and development
- Safety in Healthcare
- Care of the older person: Activities of Daily Living, Holistic care
- Care of the resident with Dementia and other topics as well.
Instruction and practice of basic resident care skills required for Nursing Assistants is provided. Skills practiced include:
- Communication
- Resident assistance with activities of daily living
- Personal care
- Transfer and positioning
- Checking Vital Signs
- Measuring Intake and Output (I&O)
- Restorative care
Students will practice supervised basic resident care in a lab setting before clinical and then take those skills to clinical at the end of the program.
To be eligible for course completion, the student must successfully meet all course objectives, pass written exams, laboratory skills performance, and clinical experience.
There are specific clinical requirements that must be completed before beginning the course.
After completing this certificate, students can take the Tennessee State certification exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Once they pass the state exam, they will be added to the Tennessee State CNA Registry.
