Details of experience:
Ms. R is a 74 year old women who arrived to The Chateau on a Monday afternoon. Upon her arrival she was greeted by the Director of Concierge, Yossi Mandelbaum. Upon greeting Ms. R, she proclaimed to Yossi that this was her second time at The Chateau, and that she was familiar with everyone here. she shared that she was unfortunately in a car accident, which is what led her to being hospitalized. Thank G-D she was okay, but she suffered a broken shoulder in the accident. Ms. R knew that The Chateau provided the highest quality care/ rehab and needed rehab due to her broken shoulder, which was accompanied by pain and the feeling of a heavy arm. While she was speaking with Yossi, she only had one question in mind. Being that this was Ms. Rs second time at the Chateau, she was wondering if it would be possible for her to be on the 1st floor like she was during her first stay. Ms. R vividly recalls Yossi’s response, as she quoted him from the day she arrived, “Ms. R, not only do we have you on the first floor, but we even have you in the same room and bed. Here at The Chateau, we anticipate everyone’s needs in advance to ensure they are receiving the best of the best.” Hearing this she had a smile on her face going from ear to ear.
During her stay, she was required to wear a cast to ensure that her shoulder could heal properly. Being that this was the case, Ms. R was nervous that she would need additional help from the team since she did not have full use of her shoulder. However, from the beginning to the end of her stay, she recalls the countless times that the nursing team and rehab team checked in on her to ensure she is on her way to success. Whether she was in pain and needed pain medication, or her muscles were feeling tight, the team was there to help. The team was not only doing their job, but they were ensuring that when the cast came off Ms. R would be ready to act immediately to further progress her rehabilitation.
Ms. R specifically wanted to thank Jillian the Assistant Director of Rehab, Ms. Young the Unit manager on the first floor, Katherine from rehab, and the entire rehab team. Her physical and occupational therapist were kind, caring, and made sure to explain how all the stretches and workouts would help her on her road to recovery. As she stated, “Both Katherine and the entire rehab team, go over what you’re supposed to do, and how to do it. They answer all your questions.” One motto that Ms. R reviewed daily was that “no matter how big or small, an accomplishment is an accomplishment. Celebrating the small wins is just as important as the big ones.” This mindset was on full display when Ms. R explained that she could put on her clothes by herself. Getting back to her prior level of ability is something that she was incredibly happy about.
While The Chateau is known for providing the highest quality rehab and care, their skillset doesn’t end there. When Ms. R thought of what brought her joy during her stay at The Chateau, a waterfall of thoughts came to mind. In this waterfall, the recreation team was led by Diane, and there was always something to do that you enjoyed. Ms. R recalls both Brooke and Marlene as they were two team members who provided the activities on the 1st floor. As she stated, “They bring the activities to you! They hand out ice cream/candy, and it’s like you’re in Disney World every day! You can feel the warmth here at The Chateau. Not only were the activities endless, but the building is sparkling clean, as well.” Not only did Ms. R build relationships with the nursing and rehab team, but everyone at The Chateau is like family. So much so that she wanted to give a huge shoutout to the housekeeping team, and especially Martha from the housekeeping team.
As Ms. R was sharing her story, she stated, “I couldn’t even lift my arm or move it when I first got here, but look at me now! I can move my arm and go from side to side! Rehab is my happy place. Working out is essential for the mind and body.” If Ms. had to pick a highlight that would be a cherished memory for her, it would be when The Chateau had a Thanksgiving feast. On top of the décor, food, guests, and fun, Ms. R was given a mic and sang to her heart’s content! Asshe prepares for her final days here at The Chateau, she reflects on all the friends she made, the memories that formed, and the stronger person she has become. Here at The Chateau, we are incredibly happy for Ms. R and can’t wait to see her return, but this time as a visitor. As Ms. R prepares for her discharge, her final thoughts can be summed up into one sentence. “It’s so simple to make new friends that last a lifetime here at The Chateau.”
