Details of Experience:

Linda R was admitted to Westchester Medical Center due to bilateral knee fractures and a right ankle fracture. She encountered a closed fracture with routine healing. A regular day of just grocery shopping turned into a few months in rehab, attempting to regain her independence due to her fractured knees, to be able to gain her mobility once again with physical therapy and occupational therapy. From there, it was recommended that she transfer to Cortlandt Healthcare due to our amazing rehab team. Linda’s goal was to return to walking independently and enjoying her life.

When arriving at our community, Linda was greeted by our receptionist, rehab team, and nursing team. Everyone gave her a warm welcome, ensuring her stay at Cortlandt would be amazing. Her nurses and aides helped to acclimate Linda to her room and made sure she had everything she needed. We listened as she explained her food preferences and supported her interest in activities.  She was ready and excited to begin her therapy sessions.

The following day, Linda was assessed to go to rehab, where she was evaluated, and her individualized goals were set.  Before the accident, Linda was very independent. She was admitted in a non-ambulatory status and required supportive therapies for all of her activities of daily living (ADLs).

With the help of our amazing team, Linda was able to meet all her occupational therapy goals at a quick pace. She was discharged from OT on January 28, 2025. At that time, she was able to dress her upper body by herself and started to be able to transfer from her wheelchair to her bed on her own. She began this journey requiring a Hoyer lift to being able to walk 50 feet all on her own with supervision.  With her dedication and hard work, and the rehab team’s support and encouragement, she was able to gain her independence little by little.

Linda R was discharged home on February 14, 2025, after 72 days of rehabilitation and care. She had an amazing experience throughout her stay here, including making friends with the staff and other fellow residents. She was very happy to go home, but at the same time, she was very sad to leave her friends behind. The day she was discharged, she was proud to be able to leave our facility, walking out our front door. Linda is truly inspiring.

She came here as a patient, but left as a friend to our Cortlandt family. Cortlandt wishes her the best on her continuing journey to better health.
