Patient was admitted to The Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after her stay in Methodist Hospital because she lost one of her legs on March 3rd, 2015. After I started working at The Phoenix on March 16th, I started to introduce myself to the residents. I realized that she was very quiet and had this depression on her face. I went to talk to her but she didn’t respond. I went back the next day and still received the same reaction. On the fifth visit, she started open up to me, knowing how she felt about losing a leg and was worried about the future. I educated her about what our facility offers, and I talked to her about our rehab team is going to be there for her, helping her get back in shape.
Patient was on a 2 person transfer in the beginning, she received PT and OT 5 days a week. After several months, she changed to 1 person transfer. At the same time, we received the prostheses which we ordered for her. PT educated her and helped her to get used to it. After two months, she’s walking on a walker. We told her that our goal is to prepare her for the stairs; she was very excited and worked very closed with the therapy. She finally graduated from a one flight up of stairs exercise.
During her stayed, I personally went to visit her twice a day just to making sure she’s doing well, and I always convince her to go downstairs to enjoy our activities. We can tell from face there is a happiness compared to the beginning when she just arrived here.
