How did this patient hear about the Riverside? SW at Bellevue Hospital
Details of Experience:
Mr. Galgano was admitted to Bellevue Hospital for having a stroke on the right side of his brain. In the beginning, he couldn’t move anything; it was very hard for him to manage without moving his left arm and leg. In his last week at Bellevue he started gaining back some movement where he was able to hold onto someone’s finger and grasp onto an object.
Since he has arrived to The Riverside, Mr Galgano says, it has been such a great experience in so many ways. The staff came in at first to introduce themselves, it made him feel so comfortable and welcomed at The Riverside. They are truly friendly which has caused him to form a relationship with them and has made his stay here so much more enjoyable.
Mr Galgano really enjoyed the food which has helped him learn so much about nutrition and the bed was the most comfortable bed he slept in from all the medical facilities he had been a part of. When he first came Mr. Galgano had some back pains and now they are all gone.
Mr. Galgano continued to say, “The therapy that I’ve been getting has been really wonderful and a life changing experience. I am making improvements everyday but mainly by understanding, it’s not just that I am making movements and somehow it is helping me. My therapists sit with me during my therapy sessions and explain to me why I am doing certain exercises and how they are helping me. That, I feel is so important and a big role in why I have been so successful and feel so accomplished in rehab here at The Riverside. I now have a much larger range of motion with my entire arm, I can reach to the other side, I can even pass something behind my back. I now am walking on my leg that only had a slight response from the muscles before.”
Mr. Galgano learned so much about his body which he feels he can now apply to his regular daily life, he now knows what is safe and what isn’t because he understands and therefore appreciates his therapy sessions.
Mr. Galgano finished off saying, The Riverside has taught me so much and I will forever be grateful. Thank you!
