How did this patient hear about the Grand Pavilion? Patient was previously admitted to our community and was happy with our prior services

Details of Experience:

Miss Shapiro was a lovely lady with quite a character. Her bright suggestions were always welcomed and she always sought out therapeutic recreational programming to participate in. She often spoke very highly of her children and always made her progress seem effortless. She loved to listen to a variety of music and always had words of wisdom to share with the staff. She could always put a smile on anyone’s face and was a real go-getter who loved to greet everyone as they walked through the doors of The Grand Pavilion.

Miss Shapiro was admitted to The Grand Pavilion from South Nassau Community Hospital on October 16th, 2016. She selected our community in result of a previous successful stay where she had healed and returned home. Previously, she had had a right above the knee amputation and experienced weakness, balance deficits as well as increased difficulty performing bed mobility and transfers. Her decreased functional activity in addition to acute exacerbation of her congestive heart failure had aided in her need of caregiver assistance to perform activities of daily living. Miss Shapiro was also limited by her anxiety, in which she categorized herself as a “nervous person”, affecting her will power to succeed in therapy; however, she always seemed to overcome obstacles and strived to succeed.

Although Susan had endured obstacles that not everyone has the capability to overcome, she pushed herself and achieved many goals she had set for herself. by participating in a number of diverse therapies offered within our community as well as keeping her mind stimulated with outstanding programming provided by recreation, she was well on her way to returning to her prior level of functioning and independence. Her positive attitude and motivation had also allowed her to be able to return home with home care and we couldn’t be happier to witness her improvements.

Over the course of Miss Shapiro’s stay here at The Grand Pavilion, she has shown that it is all about mind over matter. She was able to achieve anything she set fourth for herself with the combination of her peer’s encouragement, the staff’s support, and the guidance of therapy and nursing. Susan now requires less assistance than when she was initially admitted. She went on to state, “I will miss everyone dearly; however, I am happy with my accomplishments and the ability to return home.” Miss Shapiro was the whole package and we will miss her uplifting attitude and great advice. It was a pleasure to have her here as a part of our family and we would like to wish her the best of luck in the future.
