How did this patient hear about the Riverside? Social worker at Mount Sinai
Details of Experience:
Mr. Clement lives with his husband in the Upper West Side in Manhattan and was recently a resident at The Riverside Premier Rehabilitation & Healing Center. Mr. Clement had experienced multiple falls in the past, which caused a fracture in his hip and neck. Several weeks ago, Mr. Clement was out shopping for groceries where he slipped and fell again. This time he knew he fractured something as the pain was excruciating. He was transferred immediately from the grocery store to the emergency room at Mount Sinai West in the Upper West Side.
When Mr. Clement arrived to the emergency room several x-rays were taken, revealing that he had fractured his pelvis. Mr. Clement was in a lot of pain which the hospital treated and made sure he got enough rest. After eight days of being in the hospital, Mr. Clement was prepared for discharge to continue his recovery with receiving physical and occupational therapy at The Riverside for short-term rehab.
Mr. Clement arrived on January 17, 2017 where he was greeted by the concierge team who welcomed him to the community answering and addressing any questions or concerns he had. After settling in and receiving his initial therapy evaluation, Mr. Clement was ready to begin his rehab journey.
The first week for Mr. Clement was not easy as he had a difficult time transferring to and from bed. He also presented with a significant amount of pain hindering his therapeutic regimen. The Riverside nursing team ensured that at any given moment Mr. Clement was as comfortable as he could be by providing him the best nursing care possible. Going into the second week of Mr. Clement’s stay, progress starting increasing as he began to have the ability to walk from his bed to the bathroom with moderate assistance. He shared how great it felt to be self-sustaining and back on his own two feet once again with levels of independance. Day after day, the therapy team provided the extra encouragement he needed to prosper. After his third week of being on program, Mr. Clement was able to walk with minimal assistance! As Mr. Clement entered his fourth week at The Riverside he was able to take advantage of the beautifully newly renovated gym on the 15th floor. At that point Mr. Clement was able to independently walk with a cane, working on his strength and balance. Mr. Clement was speechless when he saw the new gym and expressed how it really gave him the last push he needed for his recovery. He also mentioned how amazing the entire Riverside Team treated him throughout his stay. Mr. Clement stated that before he came to The Riverside he wasn’t really sure what to expect, but when he arrived he said everything from the atmosphere to the staff far exceeded his expectations.
We are so happy that we were able to cater to Mr. Clement’s standards and we would like to wish him the best of health in the future!
