How did this patient hear about Cortlandt Healthcare? Hospital Referral
Details of Experience:
Ms. I was admitted to Cortlandt Healthcare after being hospitalized for a surgical procedure to her left leg due to vascular blockages, resulting in reduced blood flow to her left lower leg. Subsequently, Ms. I was forced to have her 5th toe amputated in result of the blockages. Upon admission, Ms. I presented with surgical incisions, one to the left inner thigh with 12 staples and sutures to the amputation site. Ms. I was evaluated by physical and occupational therapy where she was found to have functional deficits in all areas of mobility as well as a decline in her ability to perform all of her activities of daily living.
Ms. I was placed on both skilled physical and occupational therapy six days a week for each discipline for a total of four weeks. In addition to receiving therapy, Ms. I had to be closely monitored by nursing and the clinical wound care team to ensure no signs or symptoms of infection of the surgical incisions sites, as well as pain and/or overall physiological complications post-surgery.
Ms. I was also followed by our dietary team where she was provided with education on healthy eating and given sample menus and shopping lists.
Ms. I progressed very well during her stay at Cortlandt Healthcare. The multidisciplinary team who instituted a patient-centered approach largely contributed to her recovery. Ms. I was later able to be discharged home as her incisions had significantly healed and her mobility had increased to a level of functional independence.
