Details of Experience:
Kathleen is an 81-year-old female who arrived to the Willows at Ramapo on 7/5/17 from Good Samaritan where she was treated for a small bowel obstruction. Kathleen’s current diagnosis and treatments included chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Aspiration Pneumonia, Hyperlipidemia, Hypothyroidism, and GERD.
She is currently participating in Occupational, Physical, and Cardio/Pulmonary Therapy here at the Willows. Her goals are to return home safely with more independence where she lives with her daughter. She came to The Willows on continuous supplemental oxygen at three liters via nasal cannula due to her aspiration pneumonia and COPD. Also, she initially came to us with a wet persistent non-productive cough, which contributed to shortness of breath. Through the use of exercise, education, daily assessments, and monitoring, we were able to safely wean her off the continuous oxygen and move to a as needed status. Kathleen will be able to go home without the use of supplemental oxygen. With the oxygen gone we were also able to let the patient use a rolling walker to use the bathroom and walk around our community. The ultimate goal is to upgrade the Kathleen to a cane.
Ms. Kathleen has worked extremely hard to not only achieve her goals, but to surpass them. As she progresses toward the end of her time here we will set new goals for her to take home and work on to help remain home and remain healthy. We all wish her a healthy and happy life.
