Details of Experience:

Ms. Marian was presented to the emergency room at Morristown Medical Hospital on July 19, 2017 with a fractured pubis. She shared that she hit her right hip on her bedpost while getting into bed and experienced severe pain. After being admitted to the hospital, Ms. Marian did not undergo any surgical operations. She spent most of her first night resting on her right side. She was also not allowed to use her right leg until physician clearance.

After her successful experience at Morristown Medical Center, Ms. Marian was notified that she would need extensive inpatient rehabilitation to support the ability to be independent before returning home. Marian’s primary care doctor and doctor from the hospital had recommended she admit to Chatham Hills Subacute Care Center. Marian’s daughter researched our community and knew it was the place she wanted her mother to be treated. She was admitted to Chatham Hills on July 24, 2017.

Ms. Marian was greeted by professionals at Chatham Hills who anticipated her arrival. Within the first 24 hours of her stay, she was evaluated by the clinical team, the administrative staff, both her physical and occupational therapists who were going to be working with her, and many other valued members of the Chatham Hills team. Marian was evaluated by her therapists to determine the care that Marian was going to need.

Upon arrival to Chatham Hills Subacute Care Center, Ms. Marian was NWB-(Non Weight Bearing) on her right side. While on program, Ms. Marian made consistent progress toward reaching her goals and is continuing to keep perfecting her techniques. Her goal was to be able to go back to being totally independent in all aspects of daily living like she was prior to her accident. After achieving continued progress participating in therapy six days a week and nearing her anticipated discharge date home, Marian is now able to walk 175 feet and able to climb 10 steps. In just a little over two month’s time, she has a projected discharge date for September 29, 2017. She is now planning on returning home. She has a very supportive family who is making appropriate accommodations to make the environment safer. As Marian gratefully shared, “My time in therapy was good. It was a process you go through. Every day I got stronger. Of course I have improved, the therapists are really good.”

Ms. Marian was independent prior to her accident. Her wish when she arrived to Chatham Hills was to return back home and get back to that point. We are very happy to congratulate Marian on getting to this point and being able to return back to her home!
