How did patient hear about Bethany Center for Rehabilitation and Healing? Wife was a resident
Details of Experience:
John Bowles was admitted to Select Specialty Hospital on April 30th, 2018, after originally being admitted to StoneCrest Hospital on April 19th, 2018. He was presented to the emergency department with complaints of extreme weakness and altered mental status. After lab work had been done, they thought his main diagnosis would be a gastrointestinal bleed, but there was no active bleeding shown on any of the other tests performed. Due to the extreme blood loss, Mr. Bowles needed a blood transfusion. During the blood transfusion, he had a myocardial infarction (heart attack) due to his heart rate being so low from his extremely low blood volume. He was successfully resuscitated but required intubation with mechanical ventilation (machine to help him breathe) via a tracheostomy (hole in his trachea). It took quite some time to be able to successfully wean Mr. Bowles off of the ventilator so that he was breathing completely on his own. On May 13th, Mr. Bowels was successfully breathing on his own, and his rehabilitation journey was about to begin.
Mr. Bowles was admitted to Bethany Center on June 5th, 2018. Upon his arrival, he already had the goal in his mind that he would gain the strength to get back home. Mr. Bowles was determined to work hard and do whatever he could to become healthy and strong. Due to previously needing to be fed by a tube directly into his stomach, he eventually graduated to an oral diet with the help of speech therapy. When he discharged home, he was drinking regular fluids and eating a regular diet.
While Mr. Bowles was here at Bethany, he worked diligently with all areas of our therapy staff: physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. He participated in all of the activities. Mr. Bowles made it a point to visit the nursing staff on the first floor where his wife had been a resident.
After completely surprising all of us here are Bethany, along with his former medical care team at the hospital with is recovery, Mr. Bowles was discharged from Bethany on July 13th, 2018. According to his daughter, has been back out walking and even doing some work in the yard. She said that she hoped to bring him back for a visit soon and was beyond grateful to our entire staff for everything!
We are grateful to have met Mr. Bowles and to assist him in getting his life back in his hands!
