How did this patient hear about Chatham Hills? Concierge Referral
Details of Experience:
It was a normal July day when Christine had a doctor’s appointment. While getting up to return home, she slipped and fell. She was transferred to Overlook Emergency Room. Christine had suffered an acute computed pelvis fracture. Being completely independent prior to her fall, Christine was terrified of what was going to happen next. After being hospitalized for six days, she was advised that she was going to need further rehabilitation if she wanted to walk again. Christine and our Director of Concierge Services have known each other for years from the New Providence Senior Center. Christine knew Chatham Hills was the place she wanted to go to be with someone she knows well.
When Christine was admitted to Chatham Hills, she had a goal to decrease her pain and to get back on her feet, walking, as soon as possible. Christine was greeted by our highly-trained therapists, Leslie and Gabi. During her initial assessment, she was not able to ambulate, had severe pain, she was unable to weight shift and needed maximum assistance with all activities of daily living (ADL’s). She also suffered from pain, which limited her from functional activities.
Christine required skilled occupational therapy and physical therapy services to gain independence with her ADL’s. She participated in therapy six days a week, consistently practicing balance, dressing techniques, strength training and participated in neuromuscular re-education. On August 2nd, 2018, Christine was unable to ambulate and unable to ascend/descend levels, required maximum assistance with transfers, bed mobility, and grooming and dressing.
“Always end the day with a positive thought. No matter how hard things were, tomorrow’s a fresh opportunity to make it better.” –Anonymous.
Christine identifies with this quote because of the positive attitude she brought with her to therapy every day. She demonstrated excellent rehab potential due to being very positive, having strong family support and the motivation to return to her prior level of function.
Working hard every day, she is now able to ambulate over 225 feet, ascent/descend 12 steps with supervision of one team member and is able to perform her activities of daily living with set up assistance!
As Christine stated, “The most impressive thing about Chatham Hills is the physical therapy. They work so hard and they really inspire the patients to get better. That’s been a great plus for me. Everyone else has been so friendly. Starting with the Concierge Director, Kathleen, she was so welcoming and friendly; she even gave me a balloon when I came in. Chatham Hills is not only a friendly environment, but also an environment that you can heal in. I appreciated the fact that no one forced me to do anything, my privacy was respected, and I was happy doing what I was doing. I’m a very active adult and I’m glad I’m going to be again because of the care I got here. I know I’m going to get back to my normal life.”
Christine is the former president for four years at the New Providence Senior Center, she is also in a group of women singers named ‘The Larks’. She started a knitting club at the New Providence Library, as well as attending tai chi and yoga classes. It is safe to say that Christine is very involved in the community. While she liked to be independent at Chatham Hills, she was still very pleasant and friendly to everyone around her.
The team at Chatham Hills is gratified to congratulate Christine on her tremendous progress and continued success at home!
