Details of Experience:
Mrs. Veronica Fitzpatrick was admitted to the Grand Pavilion from New York Weill Cornell Medical Center on September 9, 2019. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was admitted with a diagnosis of a displaced pilon fracture of left tibia (fracture of the left ankle) due to falling with generalized muscle weakness. Upon arrival at the Grand Pavilion, Mrs. Fitzpatrick was greeted by our Concierge, Nursing Team, Rehab team, and Social Work team.

Prior to being admitted to the Hospital, Veronica was leading a healthy, pleasant and independent life at home and was now faced with the challenge of accepting total dependency and the challenges that come with it. Veronica was extremely motivated with an intense desire to get stronger for both herself and family. We ensured Veronica that she was in good hands and that she can be assured that she will return home safely.

Mrs. Fitzpatrick was assessed and evaluated by our amazing rehab team. The goal of Occupational Therapy (OT) was to increase functional activity tolerance, improve motor control and tone in her upper extremities and enhance Veronica’s quality of life by improving her ability to perform activities of daily living safely. It was the goal of Physical Therapy (PT) to enhance fall recovery abilities, facilitate increased independence with ambulation/stair negotiation and to increase the lower extremity range of motion in preparation for eventual discharge to home at the highest and safest functional level.

During her stay at The Grand Pavilion, she also provided great compliments regarding the welcome she received, the care, support and encouragement provided by the Grand Pavilion Staff. She stated that “The atmosphere is very nice here, the staff works very well together, and the CNA’S (Nurses aides) are very accommodating.” Veronica also stated, “I can’t be any happier than I am now with my therapists, Grace, and Miriam. I give them the highest rating. I feel like a family with them.”

Soon, Veronica will be able to return home, ambulating with a cane, as a result of her great progress at rehab and the teamwork of the Grand Pavilion staff. Our entire Grand Pavilion family is looking forward to providing her with a safe transition back home!
