How did this patient hear about The Chateau at Brooklyn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center? The Social Worker in the hospital gave the patient a brochure
Details of experience:
Mr. Jerrie J. was discharged from an inpatient stay at Mount Sinai Brooklyn in October 2020. While in the hospital, Jerrie was treated for a systemic infection ultimately requiring the amputation of his foot. Jerrie was devastated and didn’t know how he would ever get back to “his life” and the activities of daily living.
After his procedure, Jerrie and his sister searched the web and read brochures to determine his options. He was nervous and scared to go into a rehabilitation center, considering the circumstance of the pandemic but knew he needed the support. As a result of the amputation, the patient required therapy to strengthen and better support his right leg. When reviewing this material, Jerrie came upon the Chateau and the unbelievable Comprehensive Amputee Rehabilitation Program. The Chateau At Brooklyn was an answer to a prayer, so Mr. Jefferson began his journey on October 10th.
As soon as Mr. Jerrie arrived at The Chateau, he was pleased with his accommodations. The nurses and CNAs on the floor were all very happy to welcome him. After getting a good night’s sleep and speaking with his roommate, who has been to The Chateau previously, he was excited for this journey to begin. After meeting with his Physical Therapist, Mihir, and his Occupational Therapist, Ashrud, he was practically jumping for joy.
Jerrie worked each day, not only with his therapist but also with Paralympic Gold Medalists Dennis and Todd, founders of the Amputee Walking School, so he could regain strength and begin to learn how to walk again. After being fit for his prosthesis and getting clearance to start walking with his therapist, he was up early each day to walk and practice. He began walking on the units as well, so he could be ready for the next day’s challenge.
That bittersweet time had come and the Social Workers were scheduling a date for Mr. Jerrie Jefferson to go home back to his sister. When asked about his stay Mr. Jerrie stated “The Chateau is a wonderful place. My nurses on all shifts are amazing”. Besides the staff that Jerrie developed a relationship with, there were a lot of residents who would miss him, as well.
The staff and administration at The Chateau wish Jerrie good health and only the best of luck in all his future endeavors.
