Details of Experience:

Mr. Barry Owens arrived at Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing on June 11th, 2021, from home, after a previous (L) below the knee amputation. Barry came to Quality Center requiring 24/7 skilled nursing care, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.

Upon arrival, Mr. Owens was greeted by several professional team members. Within his first 24 hours, Mr. Owens met with clinicians, therapists, our physician, administrative staff, and other members of our team, who welcomed him and answered all questions. Barry was also greeted by the Director of Concierge, Kay Weir, who presented him with a CareRite welcome bag and her warm attentiveness, which she provides to all of Quality’s residents and families.

Steven Hunter performed Mr. Owen’s therapy assessment. The patient was a one-person assist for sitting up in bed, toileting, and transfers. He was non-weight bearing with the extensive assistance of staff. Barry and his therapist set goals to ensure his ability to gain balance, strengthen his gait, and prepare himself how to walk again once he receives his prosthetic leg. Despite his medical conditions, he was very determined to do whatever he had to do to reach his goals.

Barry has made incredible progress in the last few months. In the beginning, he was non-weight-bearing with extensive assist walking and standing and limited assist with transfers. Prior to being admitted, he was only walking 25 ft with extensive assist x2 on his walker; he is now walking over 350 ft, independently, with a cane. His balance has also increased significantly. He’s also transferring and doing all his daily activities independently. He’s very impressed with the amazing changes he has made. He stated, “He would highly recommend anyone to our community for help and gave the facility a high rating of 8-10. The staff is great, loving, and friendly. If he ever needed rehab again, he would return.

Mr. Owen has decided to stay in the community a little longer in hopes of finding his own place soon. He plans to discharge at that time, he shared that he’s made several friends here and enjoys the companionship.
