How Did the Patient Hear About Glengariff? Self-referred

Details of experience:

Carlos was admitted to St. Francis after falling backward down a flight of steps at home. The fall caused a fracture in his left femur and two fractures in his left wrist. At St. Francis, Carlos had a rod placed into his femur and had to have his wrist repositioned and put into a cast. After his family did some research online, they felt Glengariff was the best place for Carlos in his journey to recovery. He was recommended to have his rehab therapy at Glengariff to maximize his functional mobility to decrease levels of assistance. His goal was to return home, where he lives with his wife.
At the time of the therapy evaluation, Carlos presented with declined muscle strength, balance, and endurance leading. He had difficulty walking and was at risk for falls, and he only required minimal assistance for functional mobility and ADLs before his fall.

Working hard with the physical therapy team, Carlos progressed from requiring moderate assistance to minimum assistance for stand to pivot and sit to stand transfers after two weeks of therapy! Upon evaluation, Carlos was ambulating ten feet with moderate assistance, and after two weeks, he ambulated 90 feet with a platform walker with minimum assistance. As for Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), Carlos needed max assistance with toileting, upper and lower body dressing due to his left femur, and wrist fractures. After a week, he required moderate assistance and minimum assistance after three weeks.

Carlos made consistent progress throughout his journey here at Glengariff to reach his short-term and long-term goals. After 28 days, Carlos was discharged home with his family right in time for the New Year.

We wish Carlos the best on his continued journey!
