How Did the Patient Hear About Glengariff? Case worker at hospital

Details of experience:

Catherine took a trip up from Florida to visit her kids for the holiday. She went to Brookhaven Hospital for pneumonia initially and then ended up back in St Francis Hospital after having a fall and hit her head. After having an aortic replacement, she presented with weakness and couldn’t walk as she did before. Catherine decided to choose Glengariff rehabilitation as she needed physical therapy. Shortly after her arrival she went back to the hospital as she needed a pacemaker.

Catherine arrived back to us on February 23rd, ready to start physical therapy so she can get strong again as
her goal is to get back home to sunny Florida. At the time of the evaluation, she presented with a decrease in transfers, strength, functional mobility, and an increased need for assistance from others. Her poor standing balance made her a high risk for falls. She now needed moderate assistance and would benefit from physical therapy to regain her strength and independence.

At the start of Catherines therapy, she was walking five feet with moderate assistance with a rollator walker. After three weeks she increased to 20 feet with moderate assistance. At the fourth week mark, she could walk herself short distances to the bathroom and can walk over 50 feet with minimum assistance using a rollator walker. After improving her strength and walking distances, Catherine also accomplished walking up 5 stairs!
She made big improvements in her Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) by going from moderate assistance to being able to safely perform transfers, bathing and toileting tasks with minimum assistance. Our social work team is working with Catherine to plan her discharge within the upcoming days.

Our team at Glengariff wishes Catherine nothing but further success in her continued journey!
