Details of experience:

Have you ever contracted the flu and still not felt 100% weeks later? That’s exactly how Ms. M felt in middle January. She contracted the flu and recovered but expressed she did not feel 100% for weeks and did not regain all of her strength back. The flu caused her to feel fatigued all of the time and she could not walk as much without getting winded. On January 18th, she was walking from the bedroom to the bathroom when she fell and landed on her sacrum and her left wrist and hit her shoulder on her night stand. She was not able to get up on her own, but luckily her phone was within reach so she could call for help. Ms.M was admitted to Centennial Medical Center ER with a 10/10 pain where she stayed for six days. While at the hospital she was treated with pain medicine, IV hydration and had several x rays to confirm no broken bones, but her left wrist did have a small sprain.

Ms. M admitted to Bethany on the afternoon of January 24 th . Upon admission she was greeted by the admission nurse who assisted her with getting settled into her room. Shortly after, the Director of Concierge Services came to meet Ms. M and complete her admission evaluation. During the evaluation, she shared her goal was to “gain my strength, return home independently, and be on my own again so I can do my favorite things”. Our highly trained therapy team knew she would benefit from OT and PT services. They evaluated her and put her on a treatment plan where she participated in therapy six days a week for 45 minutes a day where she concentrated on transfers, strength training, personal hygiene tasks, ADLs, range of motion and more.

While Ms. M has experienced a few sets back during her stay at Bethany, she has never once given up. She has always stayed strong and motivated with her therapy journey. She stays very active in all of our activities we offer and does her own arm and wrist exercises when she is not participating in therapy. Ms. M has a tentative date of the end of July for discharge and she is still excelling in therapy and meeting her goals. She is able to transfer with minimal assistance, complete all of her personal hygiene tasks with minimal assistance, have full range of motion back in her wrist along with weight bearing and is consistently gaining her strength and endurance everyday!

We are ensuring she has a safe discharge plan for when it comes that time. Until then, she will continue her therapy treatment and participating in her favorite activities such as Bingo, arts and crafts, and cooking classes!
