Roger had pain in his left hip and could barely walk, even with a cane. He visited Dr. Kang at St. Francis, where it was recommended that Roger have a full left hip replacement. He was able to have a noninvasive surgery on February 7 and received a titanium hip. After surgery, Roger needed rehabilitation to get his strength back.

He was recommended to transfer to Glengariff for his rehabilitative care. When Roger arrived at Glengariff, he was greeted by the Concierge and the nursing team, who made sure he had everything he needed to settle in.
At the time of his physical therapy evaluation, Roger could not stand as he was in a lot of pain. He had some movement restrictions for six weeks to ensure proper healing. With assistance, he was only able to ambulate five steps using a rollator walker, and he was a high risk for falls. He could not walk up the stairs, and at home, he had two steps to get inside with no railing.

Roger ambulated with standby assistance 200 feet with a rollator walker within two weeks of therapy. He continued to work hard with therapy, and a week later, he was ambulating with a narrow-based quad cane 250 feet with supervision and accomplished walking up two stairs. For sit-to-stand transfers, Roger went from needing minimum assistance to supervision with occasional cues at discharge.

As for ADLs such as bathing and toileting, Roger needed minimum assistance upon evaluation. After two weeks, he needed supervision, and at the time of discharge, he just needed to set up. He was able to perform these tasks himself with just supervision.
