Details of Experience: Ellen was admitted to The Enclave at Rye Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on January 31, 2021, from White Plains Hospital. The Enclave at Rye was recommended to Ellen by her Doctor as the premier choice for rehabilitation following her battle with COVID 19. Upon arrival, the Concierge warmly welcomed Ellen, and she was immediately evaluated by the interdisciplinary team, including nursing, rehabilitation, social services, Concierge, and recreation departments. From the first time the Concierge met with her, he knew that they would become good friends throughout her stay here. Kristina, our Occupational Therapist, and Jenny, our Physical Therapist, met with Ellen and performed their evaluation. Ellen had been diagnosed with COVID 19 and was admitted to the hospital, where she was intubated for ten days. Shortly after that, Ellen was admitted to the Enclave with increased muscle weakness, impaired balance, and decreased activity tolerance. She could barely sit up for more than twenty seconds, was on continuous oxygen, and needed maximum assistance in all areas. Julie, our Speech Therapist, assessed that Ellen was only able to tolerate a pureed texture, and she began to work with her with the goal of getting her to be able to tolerate a regular diet. From day one, Dr. Abbey worked with Ellen, ensuring that all of her pain was being addressed and helping her with all that came up. Not only was Dr. Abbey her Doctor, but also a friend. Ellen would spend a lot of time every day in our gym. She would frequent the Omni-cycle, new-step, and dumbbells in the gym. These machines helped her increase her strength, range of motion, and endurance. Day by day, Ellen got stronger and stronger. As Ellen recuperated and grew stronger, her son and his fiancé started visiting regularly, which brought her immense joy. Ellen would also wheel herself downstairs for some recreation and socializing with the staff and would also love getting her hair done at our salon. After a few weeks here and working diligently with our therapy team, amazing progress was made. Ellen was ready to go home as she was able to climb steps, was fully independent, and was on a regular diet! Ellen’s story has been an incredible story, and it has been a story of hard work, resilience, and overcoming challenges. At the time of discharge, the staff lined up waiting to hug Ellen on her way out, she had become a friend to so many. We are extremely proud of Ellen and her remarkable recovery, and we wish her all the best at home and in good health!
